As a proud veteran who served our country, I was also honored to serve as Los Angeles County Commissioner of Military and Veterans Affairs for 24 years. I am committed to continue fighting for Veteran Rights in Sacramento and never forgetting the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform today.
I helped develop the No. 1 anti-graffiti program in California. My service with the Montebello Police Department gave me the experience to understand the needs of our men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line daily to keep our communities safe.
Under my leadership and commitment to economic development, the city of Pico Rivera was recognized as the most Business Friendly City in the County. I will continue to work with small business owners and entrepreneurs to help them get the resources and assistance they need to succeed and keep our communities economically strong.
I will be at the forefront for gender equality, equal pay and I will fight to protect women from workplace harassment and discrimination.
Protecting our environment leads to a healthier community. As Senator, I will fight for cleaner air, water, and invest in the latest technology for renewable energy.
I will fight to protect all seniors. I know that many of you are victims of fraud and abuse in our communities. You deserve to be treated with respect and care, and I will champion your issues in Sacramento.
Healthcare is a right for all, and I will fight to defend the Affordable Care Act and strive towards universal health coverage. I will work to protect and create legislation that reduces medical costs and offers protection for those suffering from pre-existing conditions.
I will fight to ensure that all children receive a quality public education in a safe learning environment. I will create new laws that will reduce and stop bullying in schools. I believe that a college education should be affordable and accessible to everyone, and should not be a financial burden to you.
I was elected to the Pico Rivera City Council in March 2007. During my years in office I have been instrumental in helping stabilize the city’s finances.
As Mayor, I helped bring $76 million dollars for the Durfee underpass in Pico Rivera. As Senator, I plan to bring hundreds of millions of dollars of added resources that will help improve our entire district.
